Science Vision
The aims of the KS3 and KS4 science curriculum are to ensure that all pupils:
-
develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
-
develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
-
are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
Science Curriculum
In KS3, we teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics.
Topics are as follows: Enquiry processes, Organisms, Genes, Ecosystems, Matter, Reactions, Earth, Forces, Electromagnets, Energy, Waves.
Pupils work through each topic area, gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of key points before moving-on to more challenging areas. Scientific enquiry and maths in science skills are taught when appropriate during these topics.
In KS4, pupils are taught AQA GCSE combined science (Trilogy). It is 'Double Award', ie. worth two GCSEs.
The overview of topics is as follows: The human body. Environment, evolution and inheritance. Elements, mixtures, and compounds. Chemistry in our world. Energy, forces, and the structure of matter.
Scientific enquiry and maths in science taught continue to be taught at KS4 as required by the GCSE curriculum.
KS4 support
We follow the AQA Combined Science (Trilogy) course. This is worth two GCSEs.

Oak Academy (combined science) is full of recorded lessons, so if you really don't understand a concept it is worth looking at the topic directly.
FreeScienceLessons.co.uk contains videos on all parts of the science course.
Focus elearning is also useful, with animations and online versions of the core practicals. If you don't have the school's login details, please ask a science teacher.
