Key Stage 3
In KS3, each year is split into discrete topic areas:
| Unit 1: Area and Perimeter (with Place Value & Four Operations) |
| Unit 2: Probability (with Fractions & Percentages) |
| Unit 3: Sequences, Graphs & Transformations |
| Unit 4: Angles and Lines |
| Unit 5: Money Matters (Decimals, Finance & Negatives) |
| Unit 6: Properties of Shape |
| Unit 7: Factors, Multiples, Primes and Indices |
| Unit 8: Statistics & Data Handling |
| Unit 9: Fractions and Percentages |
| Unit 10: Ratio, Proportion and Measures |
| Unit 11: Basic Algebra |
Pupils cycle through each topic area, gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding with a mastery focus on gaining confidence in each aspect’s basic skills before moving-on to more challenging areas.
Key Stage 4
In KS4, while the same topic areas are covered as in KS3, there is a greater appreciation of how the topics relate to one another.
Pupils study topics discretely and then in conjunction in order to secure a strong understanding and enable them to apply their knowledge to problem solving involving multiple topic areas in preparation for GCSE exams.
The aims of the GCSE Maths course are to:
> Develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
> Acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
> Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
> Comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context
